The Martin College Brisbane Campus was a buzz with celebration last Friday as we congratulated our recent graduates. The Graduation Ceremony was hosted by Brad Power, the Martin College Marketing Manager.
Brad kick started the event with an unusual analogy. A question was posed to the graduating students … “Are you a chicken or an eagle?” The host went on to explain that the fundamental difference between these two birds is an interesting way to emphasize that a graduate’s future success depends on the quality of their vision and their ability to focus. Brad said, “a chicken mainly focuses on the ground (its immediate circumstances), whereas an eagle is fixed on the greater vision of the sky and mountain tops. Therefore a chicken is destined to always remain in the barn yard, while an eagle is destined to soar high and rule the sky”.
The graduating Martin College students were encouraged to dream big and to expect success.
Before handing out the Graduation Certificates, the Campus Director, Warren Walmsley also offered some inspirational thoughts. He highlighted that the value of the student’s education at Martin College doesn’t so much exist in the piece of paper (the Diploma) but lies in the development of the students’ mind. He then challenged the students to continue investing in their mind and personal development.
Some of our graduating Martin College students had arrived in Australia with very little English. Before entering Martin College they first studied at our English College, Embassy CES. What an achievement to have completed their English study and then go on to successfully complete their Diplomas!
In addition to the Graduation Certificates, a special Recognition Award was presented to Chihiro Yamada, who completed a Diploma of Business specializing in Travel and Tourism. Chihiro was recognized for her conscientious effort and excellent work. She always interacted well with the other students and was always willing to provide assistance to those students who were having difficulty in class. Well done Chihiro!
After the ceremony, the students and their Martin College teachers enjoyed a refreshing afternoon tea in the boardroom while reminiscing over the students’ journey at the Brisbane Campus.
A big thank you to Jenny Hertrick (Director of Student Services), Phil Mason (Director of Studies) and Tim Murrell (College Scheduler) for their efforts in organizing the event.
